Our social commitment is with the native and peasants communities and with the families living in the remote rural sites visited on the bike tours and rides we organize. 

We want the money received from our customers to reach them in the form of material and spiritual aid. 

Localidad: Valle de Cañete

Ubicación: 150k al sur de Lima

Situación identificada:

En el año 2007 un terremoto grado 7.9 Richter destruyó masivamente la región de Ica. Dos días despúes un grupo de voluntarios de Peru Cycling que nos llamamos UCAE –Unidad Ciclista de Ayuda en Emergencias acudimos a la zona para evaluar daños y necesidades en las zonas rurales remotas de difícil acceso a donde solo pudieron llegar con sus bicicletas.

Con la lista de requerimientos volvimos a Lima para conseguir la  ayuda. Luego de una cadena de correos electrónicos entre amigos, la respuesta de varias personas e instituciones fue muy positiva y se llevó un camión con víveres, alimentos, ropa, entre otros, según el inventario realizado.

Sin embargo, la necesidad más urgente, era la reparación de los canales de regadío en los pueblos campesinos de Concon y Ramadilla, pues sus ingresos futuros dependían de una buena cosecha de uvas, frutas y otros sembríos. Para ello,  se requería materiales y mano de obra lo más pronto posible. Gracias a las coordinaciones del Peru Cycling, se realizó el contacto con la ONG Hands On Disaster, quienes financiaron los materiales, y enviaron voluntarios para las obras.  De esta manera, fue posible reconstruir los canales de regadío, en un trabajo en conjunto de la comunidad, los voluntarios y la municipalidad.

Después de esta experiencia de UCAE en la zona,  Perucycling  identificó que el valle ofrecía buenas condiciones para desarrollar una ruta de ciclismo de aventura y turismo, y en el pueblo de Concon se ha establecido una pascana donde llegan los ciclistas que hacen la ruta a descansar y reabastecerse y donde consumen los productos locales: uvas, frutas, pisco de chacra y la rica comida tradicional y disfrutan de la hospitalidad de las familias locales. Actualmente la ruta llamada “Cañete -Lunahuaná “, es una de las  más solicitadas y la que más beneficios lleva a los agricultores de la zona gracias a la actividad turística.

Identified issue:

In August 2007 an 7.9 Richter earthquake caused massive destruction in the Ica region. Two days after the event a volunteers team from Peru Cycling, self named UCAE – Cyclists Unit for Emergency Aid went to the zone for damage and needs assessment in the remote rural zones hard to reach but only possible with mountain bikes.

With the list of needs we returned to Lima to collect the aid. After active e-mailing with friends and in social networks the response of many people and institutions was very positive and it was possible to bring a big truck full of goods and donations for the victims.

However, the most critical need was the repair of the irrigation channels of Concon and Ramadilla, villages of farmers for whom the year’s harvest was endangered as consequence of the quake. To accomplish that materials and handwork was urgently needed. Thanks to friends of Peru Cycling the contact with American NGO Hands On Disaster was possible to get the financial aid and help of volunteers to complete the repair of the irrigation channels together with the local farmers.

After this experience in the zone, Peru Cycling identified the valley as a good opportunity to develop a bike touring route. At Concon village a rest stop shelter has been established to provide basic lodging (with sleeping bags in the living room of local family) and resupply for the bikers riding on this trail. Visitors now can get direct from the farmers hospitality, fresh fruits, grapes, homemade pisco and very nice traditional cuisine meals.

Now a days this route is offering one of the best adventure cycling experiences near Lima and the benefits of tourism for the farmers.

Localidad: Laguna Grande

Ubicación: 300k al sur de Lima, Ica.

Situación identificada:

Laguna Grande es una caleta de pescadores artesanales ancestral. El lugar es y has sido habitado por siglos y generaciones. Actualmente hay solo unas pocas familias durante todo el año que viven de lo que les da el mar: la pesca.

La familias residentes son buenas y amables y gracias a su hospitalidad y generosidad hemos podido quedarnos a dormir en sus humildes casitas de madera cada vez que llegamos haciendo el Trans Desert Bike Tour. También han cocinado y preparado deliciosa comida de pescado fresco para nosotros.

Estas personas carecen de muchas cosas pero algo que hallamos importante es que no tienen servicios higiénicos sanitarios.

Nuestro plan de ayuda social es llevarles equipos y materiales y un técnico para la instalación de sanitarios que las personas puedan usar con comodidad e higiene. Y construir una cabaña para albergar huéspedes con comodidad. Esto será muy bueno tanto para ellos como para los visitantes como nosotros que llegan al lugar.

Place: Laguna Grande

Location: 300k South of Lima

Identified issue:

Laguna Grande is an ancient fishermen village. The place has been inhabited for centuries. At present times just few families are living there all year long doing just fishing.

These resident families are very kind and generous and thanks to their hospitality we have stayed some nights sheltered in their humble wooden huts every time we arrive on the Trans Desert Bike Tour. They have also cooked and prepared delicious fresh fish meals for us.

These people are in lack of many things, but we noticed one important issue: they don´t have decent sanitary facilities –toilets.

Our social aid plan is to bring them proper sanitary equipment and a technician to install the toilets.  And to build a guests house –a comfortable wooden hut. This will be very convenient for the local people and for the visitors like us when arriving the place.

Localidad: Desierto de Ica

Ubicación: 250k – 500k al sur de Lima.

Situación identificada:

El desierto de Ica es un inmenso territorio en la costa del Perú único y excepcional. Se trata de una región con un delicado ecosistema, no es un desierto sin vida. Fue ocupado en tiempos ancestrales tan antiguos como 7,000 años a.C. y por las civilizaciones que crearon las Líneas de Nazca y Paracas y gran número de muchos otros geoglifos que están ampliamente distribuidos en casi toda su extensión.  Asimismo alberga los restos arqueológicos de esas civilizaciones que yacen enterrados por la arena del desierto y que a simple vista parecen simples montículos o dunas. También el desierto de Ica es el yacimiento de fósiles más grande del mundo con una extensión de más de 5,000 km2. Todo este patrimonio cultural y natural se encuentra desprotegido sin señalización alguna que advierta sobre su existencia y ubicación. La gran amenaza la constituyen los usuarios de vehículos 4x4 que cruzan el desierto sin saber de la ubicación de estos tesoros. Y ahora la más grande y peor amenaza es el Rally Dakar que ha trasladado el escenario de sus carreras masivas de vehículos 4x4 al Perú y atraviesan el desierto de Ica arrasando y destruyendo todo a su paso: geoglifos que no son visibles desde el nivel del suelo, restos arqueológicos ocultos por la arena y fósiles que hay por todas partes.

Nuestro plan de ayuda social es colocar señales y avisos que adviertan sobre la ubicación de geoglifos, restos arqueológicos y fósiles en el desierto de Ica. La implementación de este trabajo debe ser con la participación de las personas de las comunidades vinculadas con el desierto creando así para ellos nuevas oportunidades de trabajo y formar en ellos conciencia sobre la importancia de la protección este valioso patrimonio

Identified issue:

The desert on coastal Ica is an extensive territory unique and exceptional. It is a region with a delicate ecosystem but not a dead desert. In was inhabited as long ago as 7,000 years b.C. and by the ancient civilizations that created the Nazca Lines and Paracas geoglyphs and many others widely distributed in that ample area.  Also it hosts the archaeological rests of those civilizations laying buried by the desert’s sand that at first glimpse seem to be simple mounds or dunes. Moreover the Ica desert is the world’s biggest fossils deposit covering more than 5,000 square kilometers.  All this cultural and natural heritage is unprotected without any signs warning about its locations. The threat are the people driving 4x4 vehicles through the desert without any information about the location of these valuable rests. And now the biggest and worst threat is the Dakar Rally, this race has moved the scenery for this wild massive Off Road competition to Peruvian territory traversing the Ica desert razing and destroying everything on their way: geoglyphs that generally are not visible from ground level, archaeologic rests hidden by the sand and fossils wide spread all over the desert

Our social aid plan is: to install signs warning people about the location of the geoglyphs, archaeologic rests and fossils in the Ica desert. To do this job we want to invite the people living in the communities within the territory of the desert to participate, by this way we want to create new job opportunities for them and awareness about the importance of this valuable heritage protection.
